GeneDartec Inc. is seeking to fill two positions of Research Scientist who will work under the guidance of Sr. Research Scientist (group leader) focusing on metabolic engineering of microorganisms to produce valuable small-molecule products, such as pharmaceuticals, APIs, dietary ingredients, and specialty chemicals. The successful candidate will have a strong work ethic and the ability to effectively use synthetic DNA and gene-editing tools to create and improve production microorganisms.

 

Responsibilities:

• Work with Sr. Research Scientist to design and build DNA constructs for strain improvement

• Utilize and improve protocols for building/cloning multi-gene DNA assemblies (plasmids)

• Utilize and improve protocols for genome editing (e.g., gene deletion, insertion, and modification) of E. coli and other model industrial microorganisms

• Apply a broad range of standard molecular biology methods including PCR, electrophoresis, plasmid construction, transformation, and cell culture.

• Maintain timely documentation of laboratory work.

• Analyze and report experimental data.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

• Ph. D. in Biotechnology, Molecular Biology, Microbiology, Bioengineering or a closely related field

• Or a master’s degree in Biotechnology, Molecular Biology, Microbiology, Bioengineering or a related field with 4+ years of industrial/academic experience.

• Proficient in molecular biology techniques, including DNA construct design, PCR, gene cloning and assembly (e.g., Gibson and Golden Gate assemblies), plasmid extraction, and protein expression.

• Extensive experience of genome editing in E. coli and/or other model bacteria with different approaches such as Lambda Red, CRISPR etc.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

• Knowledge and experience in metabolic engineering of E. coli and other model bacteria species for chemical production

• Hands-on experience in microbial fermentation.

 

Location: Athens, Georgia

Compensation: $70,000-80,000 per year plus benefits equivalent to 15% of base salary
